As India, like the entire world, got under the dreadful epidemic that paralyzed life and locked all beings
inside, stray animals and birds were the ones who faced the worst impact of it. They were deprived of food and were left with no means of feeding themselves as all offices, restaurants, and roadside eateries (where they had easy access to food) were closed.
Also, as the pandemic spread its wing, so does the rumors related to dogs and local community animals
linking them with COVID-19 and reports on the abandonment of companion animals, ill-treatment of healthy
strays, harassment of those who feed strays and shelter animals, came into the picture.
Despite the World Health Organisation (WHO) clarifying that pet animals cannot get or spread COVID-
19, a panic was created.
The same plight was registered for other animals like cows, monkeys, birds, cats, etc.

What Varad is Doing
V – Feed
VARAD fed stray animals during a nationwide lockdown imposed in the wake of coronavirus to mitigate the pandemic.
We rescued animals in distress, provided home-to-home veterinary services and medical supplements, and
most importantly, took action against animal cruelty.
During times of the lockdown, the organization is called for volunteers across the country to do their part and
help stray animals and abandoned pets. While catering to animals, we ensured that all maintain the norms for the prevention of COVID-19.
We arranged and distributed dog food, cat food, bird feed, and cattle feed across our team. We largely pledged people also to keep water and grains for birds.
